    While this question may sound redundant, I want to make an honest attempt to understand it. How does creating media awareness translate into making politicians understand the complicated issues suffered by legal immigrants? Further do they give any weightage to the fact that the stories are in the media and therefore they need attention?

    I am biased towards the opinion that we might have already run enough media stories. I believe that the real fight now is to convince the politicians to do something about it. Propaganda and lobbying is the only thing that works with politicians in this country. And you have to choose a medium that politicians directly refer to. Meeting politicians and their representatives in person is most effective I believe. With due respect to your views, Pappu, can we discuss some of these questions?

    I agree. Our adversaries and friends alike have noted the media stories. What we need now is getting in touch with politicians, and action!

    I have been doing the same research for the past one month, here is my experience.

    1. Termlife Vs Wholelife.
    Term is better than whole life. Instead of going with whole life, you can have Term + Saving account. For example, if you need $500/year for term and $2500/year for whole life. Take the Term insurnace and pay $500/year, open a saving account and deposit $2000/year ($2500 - $500).

    2. You can compare the different life insurance with ratings. http://www.term4sale.com/

    3. No life insurance for H1 (non-immigrant)
    I have talked to WesternSouthern and Metlife agents. WS does not offer Life insurance for H1 but Metlife offer life insurance provided that insured person must be working in the same company for last five years.

    4. Insurance here (US) vs India
    Term insurance in India is much higher than insurance here. I got the quote here for $500/year but for the same insurance amount, the LIC cost me Rs.80,000.00

    5. Hidden items
    Make sure, you understand all the hidden item when you take insurance from here(US) or India. If you (owner+beneficiary) take life insurance here, the insured person stays outside the country for long time (more than six weeks) and if the insured person dies then you can't claim.

    our immigration department told me that as per USCIS regulation they can not apply earlier than 6 month of expiry date

    Strange...

    No, I am positive. My H1 was expiring 9/21/2007. I applied on 01/05/2007. Received 3 year approval in April 2007.

    Maintaining long lines is a way to discourage more people from trying or aspiring. Do you think government should be trying at these economic times to do something, not to have long lines, so that more people can try to come in?

    llc and s-corp are same for the situation you brought up... however, you gotta be mindful of the "corporate veil"... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piercing_the_corporate_veil trap... which can affect any company llc or corp... dont worry, there is nothing bad in it... just make sure that you keep real good records and separate business operations from personal...

    further i doubt that s-corp or corp is a promotion over llc as your post seems to suggest...

    anyway... your choice is not bad... and neither is mine...

    disclaimer: many experts dont consider wikipedia a reliable source of information.

    the low risk lies in the fact that any adverse decision you may have to take ever (God forbid) like bankruptcy does not affect your own personal credit history and assets. I am not sure whether the same exists for corp or not. So I may be wrong regarding the low risk factor of LLC. But I always had the notion of starting any venture as an LLC and then moving on to a corp.

    No, we are not going to abuse this and we won't be sending stuff over and over. But stoppers have a very Specific significance: to educate and differentiate between legal and illegal. A stopper says "Stop the reverse brain drain"...A stopper would pique people's interest becase we are typically lumped in with illegals, and a stopper does not exemplify what illegals are. Illegal immigration's message is: "legalize us and help new guest workers come", our stopper says "We are already legal and are already leaving, fix this before we all leave"

    Actually, many Indians with US Citizenship are leaving too. What I have seen with my friends and coworkers is that, the moment they receive the US passport they book a flight to India and come back when ever they please. If media picks up that fact, then what is our strategy?

    Remember, 245i cases were the NOT the same as the mexican illegal aliens that are being spoken of in relation to CIR .. lots of educated, legal H1-Bs lost their jobs (and their legal status) during the dot com burst of 2000 - 2002. Some of them stayed on even after going out of status, and then became eligible to file for GC under 245i.And needless to say, many more of those H1s came from India than mexico.

    These people are illegal nevertheless, and I am ashamed that they are from my country.

If an alien ends employment with the petitioning employer within 30 days of receiving his/her green card, then it is highly likely that USCIS will decide that the alien’s intent at the Consulate interview was not, as he/she stated, to remain with the petitioning employer indefinitely. After 60 days have passed, it is less likely (but still risky) that USCIS will determine that the alien lied about his/her intent at the Consulate interview. And after 90 days, it is highly unlikely that USCIS will have a problem with the alien’s change of employment


    Maybe this 30-60-90 rule applies to people with Consular Processing or someone who enters this country on Employment based GC and who leaves the employer right away after coming here.

    For majority of people here in US, they might have already worked for a given employer for 3-6 years before they filed 485 and got their GC and completed their 6 months after AOS application to kick in AC21. So for such a person who has sustained abuse by working at the petitioning employer for 3-6 years, does he need to show any more intent?
