An Indian national was robbed and in the process was shot and killed. What has that got to do with him being a legal immigrant? Would the thugs have spared him had he been "illegal" or a "citizen"?

How about contacting other already established organisations like ATA, TANA, DTA,BATA, Kannada kutami etc for help? All these organisations are formed by immigrant people from different states in India. They have a huge membership. We can rise funds and memberships by highlighting and explaining our problems. Is there any one pager or document that can be sent to all these orgs and asking them for help in funding as well as political drives?

How about not resigning 'officiallly', but taking another job?
Most of us work for consulting companies, if we stay with the sponsoring employer for 3-4 months, then go on leave(paid/unpaid), and then 'come back' and ask for work/project.... they might not have a project just ready to take you in. In that case they may ask you to resign or else they'll have to pay you (they can't keep you on bench anymore...) or they may fire you..
Are you any safer if the employer fires you?

The other day he pretended like someone from north India and attacked people from AP. He was also supportive and sympathic towards terrorist who attacked Mumbai on 11/26. Why not? Although I have applied for GC, I have no desire to take US citizenship, just to let you know. The majority does not mean the whole world and also does not mean everyone. There are Indian citizens that love India. Parents should be able to make decisions for their kids until they are 18. The kid can take US citizenship when he is 18 if parents have opted for Indian citizenship.

I would sympathize with you if you can do the following:
1) Show me that no more than 90% of the population experience depression tendencies at some point in their life.
among EB applicants I believe it would be 99%. So are you alone? I guess not:D:D
Things you could do: Try watching talks with the Dalai Lama (available on youtube). Read books on Gandhi. Increase frequency of quiteness / meditation. Watch atleast one comedy show per day. Visit/remember the sick/disabled/poor or other less fortunate people than you.
Things you could avoid: Heavy drinking. Watching news, movies/shows which are high tension. Most important is not to fight the emotions/thoughts that you consider are destructive. Allow them to come and go. Just watch them come and go........
What you consider as "Good luck" can happen to you in the fraction of a seccond, however, it will never happen if you keep on defining yourself as unlucky. So focus on the good things you have now and refrain from comparing to "what you should be having or are worthy of having". :D:D:D:D

I follow similar techniques to stay optimistic for most part of time. but every once in a while, there comes a time when I think why do some ppl get so lucky in everything they do.... they succeed in everything they do. while there are unlucky ppl like the poor/disabled etc who are destined to live unfortunate life deprived of so many things that other ppl enjoy regularly. is this what they call 'Law of Karma' ? did I do anything bad/evil in my past births - did I destroy anyone's career or life ? I fall into the group that believes that this is one of the siliest competitions around today. When I say sily it is not in the sense that the game itself is sily but rather in the importance it is being given. Particulalry have you seen any other competition where the parents are also on display this much? By the way are any of these kids good writers? Has any of these winers ever produced a great novel/poem? if so they should tell us about that. Moreover, how many of the greatest inventors/scientists are great spellers? This is the only country where this type of competition is given such national prominence. I would say let them have maths/science/quiz competitions on such a national scale and media and that would be a great stimulation for others. This almost makes Indians and Chinese look silly!:D:D

Best way is some of the provisions in Durbin bill to restrict some abuse. Only bad thing in Durbin bill is it is banning consulting with H1bs. Other than this provision everything is good. Instead of opposing the entire bill it is better to oppose only that section.
no matter what , H1 are for employers for them to be competitive, how come all of a sudden employers are talking about illigal immigrants these days, because they have found out that they can get them at a very cheaper rates, the moment you try to put wage garuntee in any of the immigration bills, this what kenndy wants, republicans run by big business are not longer interested in the immigration. perfect example of modern day enslavery. if they make 400K H1B's as per the strive ACT, Green card will lose much of its significance, because most employers will find easy to hire H1B raher than paying 20% or 30% higher to somebody on green card, that is the reason employers are after H1B.

You are missing the point. I do NOT think I am SPECIAL. I have an MBA from a US reputed Univ. plus 5 years of experience... I do assessment of their existing IT systems and give recommendations.
My logic is differrent.. This is valid for US born people too. WHY would a company pay $180 an hour to a consulting Co. for the same skill-sets.... however, when you go to them directly they will just pay you $60-$70.

It is a competition, Indian kids are winning. This is not ultimate thing in life. Still last night it was highly viewed, coveted title and winning it is not a small achievement. I would say just be happy for them.

Whenever an attempt to increase visa numbers is made a budget point of order can usually be made. So, you will need 60 votes to amend the law.

Not really. Senators voted against this because they opposed the underlying amendment. The Democratic opposition stems from the facts that the amendment proposed to re-capture from all categories and then re-distribute accordingly to a Republican preference. For instance EB-3, numbers re-captured didn't all go to EB-3. The amendment gave 61,000 to Schedule A and then re-distributed the rest equally.
A much fairer, simpler and permanent solution is to simply rollover the unused numbers to next years numbers.
I believe there is around 300,000 unused visas from previous years. Even if 61,000 visas are gone to Schedule A, we would have got the remaining 240,000 visas. Imagine they are not even ready to pass the amendment which gives relief to Schedule A(extremely shortage workers) as well as employment catagories, think about the chances if the amendment stands only for employment catagories.
