Why can't we simultaneously have webfaxes + letters + phone calls + sit-ins + flower mailing + writing to newspapers etc. etc.?
The reason is that whatever the "action item" - it's more or less the same 500people who come forward.
Having said that - there is no stopping members to lead and motivate other members to join in an aciton item that they can "sell" to those other members.

My dear friend,
Congrats on your Canadian PR. I am sure, you will definitely do good there. I also agree with you that we are all here caught and dealing with this mess. Some of my friends moved to Canada because they could not deal with this immigration mess - they struggled initially but now well settled, have their own businesses, do a lot of things, have a big community, enjoy their weekends and really doing excellent in their life. So for you - when you go to Canada - things will definitely work out.
Now coming back to global migration and countries where people go - your view is very narrow and centric about Indian companies doing consultancy work. Global migration is common, every country has its policy on these things and we must be glad that in today's world we do have a choice.
For a lot of Tamils in Sri Lanka - migration has been the best optionn to survive. To people from different countries migration has been a boon.
For America in particular - Skilled immigration has been a very important part of immigration to keep the country competitive and make it the best nations in the world. Mathematicians, professors, researchers, teachers, cooks, doctors, nurses, therapists, engineers .... I can go on, Tell me what not - everyone come to America in their own channel - a process that has been created and being followed. Now, the big issue is about retrogression and how it is diffficult for imigrants - this is a known issue, but unfortunately the law was written long back and does not seem to fit well for today's world.
If people got their Green Cards through consuting companies, they did follow law - so lets not blame them. If you think it is unfair, you must work towards conveying your cause.
The good thing about organizations like IV is that it provides platform where people can voice their opinions and work towards a change - so there is no need to discourage people.

I would strongly suggest everyone to acquaint himself/herself with the legislative process and how a bill moves through different phases / steps before it becomes a law. You can find many postings documenting the process.
Right now it is just introduced in the senate. The problem for us is that Sen Durbin is Democratic Whip (i.e. Assistant Majority Leader) which gives him tremendous influence over garnering votes and referring which legislation to consider to the Majority Leader (Harry Reid in the Senate). Ultimately Reid decides which legislation get priority consideration. The fact that Grassley is a Republican and is close to the Minority Leader (I think) does not help us either. We will monitor the progress of the bill.

I would recommend two forms of IV.
1. Free for all (an immigration help site)
Should contain:

My analysis if the law is passed in the current form
1. Non displacement provision will delay H1b process. But innovation will not be impacted as best companies Like Google, Microsoft and start up companies will not have a problem in proving that skills are not available in the market.
2. When a company lays off they cannot recruit for 6 months. But a company is laying off people they will hardly recruit for 6 months. Generally when they do less than 5% of staff that will not come under layoff provision and still they can recruit H1b. So only a few positions will be impacted.
3. 50% rule may make many bodyshoppers and Top indian companies force to recruit US Citizens and medium non public companies may split into many companies. Some H1b dependent small and medium companies may go out of business. It will have huge short term impact on H1b aspirants but they will adjust quickly to change their jobs.
4. More powers for DOL will make the companies to follow the law and reduction of abuse
5. Of course the restrictions will make less number of jobs for H1bs and L1s. But when economy improves demand will increase so that H1b cap will be reached inspite of all these restrictions. I strongly believe that system will adjust the new restrictions similar to TARP bill but short term very high impact. But that can be minimised by applying all those restrictions only for new H1bs. Generally more restrictions the persons qualifying will be best and bright and also wages for H1bs,L1s also will increase with improved working conditions.
6. If pro immigrants like IV can negotiate to include Recapture or increase GC cap. But that depends on chance of passing the bill. If IV and other pro immigrants lobby and block the bill then that makes sense. But if the bill gets bi partisan support then it may be wise to take different approach. This bill may be like 2007 and may not be considered at all.
I did not read the bill completely but my views were based on some major provisions and also I do not believe the conspiracy thoeries that they want to remove the H1b program first then EAD then GCs. But it is a protection for US citizens. I am not arguing that the protection is right or wrong but most countries in the world are trying to do that when recession. India has 100% protection for jobs for Indian citizens

I am afraid you are being naive here. What the OP is saying is
(1) We should all go back to our home land, because he has some opinions and positions on what is considered turning back to home land. You might not see it but he is trying to shape opinion of others very intelligently. Who says this? Some one who does not want competition here. Well, if this was coming from some one who is in India I will give him props. He is in US for 10 years and he is saying US GC system sucks and I will go to canada in 2 years. Damn it! I am better than him because I will go to India and not canada. I will stop short of saying that every one should go back to India or his/her homeland.

I believe , nitin has the right to voice his opinion (many people would agree with him, many would disagree). But there is no need to fight like illiterate people. If someone doesn't agree , he should say i don't agree, and this is what i believe in.
I like US very much , i am here for around 5 years , and i believe the GC system really sucks (don't you ?)But i have some commitments in India , and if i don't get a GC in 1-2 years i will go back. All my college batch mates in India are managers now , and i am still a developer. I cant take a better job , because i don't have a GC, and with EB3 India, by the time i will get a GC, i would be about to retire :-)
So everyone would have a different perspective, and different opinions.

DOL should not have given this advance notice, I am sure that all Desi consulting companies now aware of this rule will try to sell of their approved labors before April and approved labors will be available even in vegetable market.
There is lot of chance they would do this, and unfortunately we cannot avoid that, lets counter this by creating awareness among our members and GC seeker's community of how much risk involved in buying an approved labor at this time.

As the guy who posted it said, this is a normal process....Consulates will know 3 to 4 days before...
That is correct, 9 months and then I will return to my country for good.
I am waiting for the day when we get the GC , we will tear it into pieces and throw in front of consulate.

I think it is a good think to respond to the people who offended you, but it is naive to think something will be done just by CNN getting a letter with thousands of signatures.
If you feel you are offended or prejudiced, why not pursue a lawsuit for defamation/moral damages? I think this is perfectly fit for a judge to decide. Only this way the small can affect the big.
Or, why not try to appear on the show and talk against the lies Tancredo said? I bet Lou Dobbs would love that, as it would increase audience.
A petition like this, directly to CNN, is, in my point of view, a waste of time and effort. It's not going to be read and will be thrown into the trash can as soon as it is opened there.

Lets not support this bill guys. The right way to stop mis-use of H1 or L1 by companies is to make it a free market for the "employees" in visa. Let them be able to work for "any employer". Do you think the L1 guy will let him be abused, if he was allowed to change employers easily. Lets not close the doors for others, lets have an open mind to for competition and equal human treatment. Also lets see what is best for USA.
Putting more restrictions on employer is never effective. Abusing employers will always find the loopholes, and the legitimate employers will be scared away. The effective way is to get the "visa employees" more freedom.
