You can port to a new employer after your 485 has been pending for six months (from the date USCIS recieved your application). See IV threads on portability for more information.

I am on l2 since my husband is on L1. I work full time for a US employer with an EAD. Now, what would happen to my status if my husband quits his job? you have EAD, that EAD was entirely based on your L2 status. If L2 status is gone so EAD is invalid too....

I have applied I485 when i was in India and it is in pending now.I am back from India and currently in USA now and came to know that one cannot file I485 when the applicant is not in USA.
Should i be withdrawing the pending I485 and reapply now ?since there is a date availability till august 17th 2007
Or Can I appply new I485 without withdrawing the pending I485 .Once I get new receipt notice ,then withdrw the old pending I485?
Please suggest .Thanks in advance.
These are critical decisions and you should consult a knowledgeable attorney ASAP to know your options and possible risks. If you used an attorney to file your 485 from India, then you know that this attorney is no good.

Hi,
One of my friends lost his Petition papers. His H1-B visa is about to expire and he wants to file for an extension. Currently he is in India and was planning to travel to US this week, when he lost his petition papers.
Will it be possible for him to travel to US without his Petition papers and apply for a duplicate / extension?
Please let me know any help line number where he can call to clarify his doubts.

ATA conf is a popular event among South Indian (Telugu) immigrants - this year their meeting is in NJ. During this even they seems to have an immigration forum with Attorney Murthy - details are below. If enough IV members are attending - it will be a good idea to have an informal meeting among ourselves. I am also trying to contact organizers to see if they will be OK to announce about IV and our activities - some of us can volunteer to talk to anyone interested to talk more or involve in IV's acitivities.

Hi Friends,
I work for Company A from the year 2003 on H1-B Visa and here is my details
Priority Date : Aug 2004 (EB3-I)
I-140 Approved date : Jan 2007
I-485 Filed date : July 2007
Currently using : H1-B (8 th year running)
EAD & AP : I have both EAD & AP but not using it at this stage.
Now i got an offer from Company B but they can accept only EAD or GC with Good salary and position. I am really tired of getting low salary with company A as they started taking advantage of me.
Now if i use EAD card to move to company B (by using AC21) and once i get a green card (don't know when ??) do i have to come back to company A and work for one or two years as GC is for future employment ? Is there any rule like this ?
I am also planning to have my personal attorney after moving to Company B to take care of AC 21 and other communications.
I am not sure Company A will allow me to move at this stage and i cannot waste my life with this company for a low salary so i want to move and make some progress in my life.
Have any of you moved like this and got GC ? Will there be any issues ?
Please advise.

As per the new regulation, you can apply for VISA in any consulate in INDIA. This removes the ambiguity of choosing/justify the choice of a different consulate other than the one in your consular district. Refer to the link below. Hope this helps!!!

Received my REF last month then i sent my reply and they received it. Now everytime i checked the online status the Update Date in the online account is changing everyday for last couple of days. What does it mean? Is it a positive sign or not? kinda worried about the whole situation. Please let me know what you guys think or anyone get this kind of update or not?
Current Status: Response to request for evidence received, and case processing has resumed.
On month xx, xxxx, we received your response to our request for evidence. We will notify you by mail when we make a decision or if we need something from you. If you move while this case is pending, call customer service. You should expect to receive a written decision or written update within 60 days of the date we received your response unless fingerprint processing or an interview are standard parts of case processing and have not yet been completed, in which case you can use our processing dates to estimate when this case will be done. there are many threads on the same topic. it is an error by them when they send a document which can not be classified in anything else in those categories. may be some inexperienced employee is updating it.

I have one suggestion for the website.. Search engines are usually parameters-averse. For instance Google claims they may stop crawling if the links have too many parameters. The non-forum part of this Joomla powered website mostly utilize &s and ?s parameters in the URL.
The Joomla installation comes with an SEF component that converts &s and ?s into comma-separated directory structures.. You guys can turn it on in the admin panel. The conversion makes the URL look even uglier but it is at least SEF-compliant. Or there are other third party Joomla components that do a better job (though may require slightly more tuning)

I believe so....if your LC is approved in August, then your PD is August. It is not qualified under July VB.
Not True. PD is your labor filing date not approval date. I think, you should be able to apply if your PD falls on or before July 2007. Please consult with your attorney. They can check with USCIS through AILA liason. Thanks -

Changing your address using AR-11 does not affect any existing petition. To change your address on any outstanding application you need to call the USCIS customer service number. So relax, this has no effect on your application.
