I mailed my EAD renewal (Paper filing) with priority mail on 06/23/08 and was received at TSC on 06/26/08 but check has not been en-cashed yet and obviously no receipt. Any body in similar situation? Wanted to know how long it should take get receipt.

Recently joined IV. The trigger for me was the July visa bulletin fiasco. I am sure that it caused a spike in activity/interest on IV, so, some good will come out of it, hopefully.
However, we can't just put all the blame on USCIS/July bulletin fiasco, for all our woes. Getting our apps in at USCIS, will grant us some immediate benefits, but, we still might have to wait for a pretty long time, to get a GC. We also need to look at more permanent solutions through legislation, which would actually reduce the GC backlog.
Attended the SJ rally on the 14th, the turnout was good, but, could have been much better. IMO, the impact will be limited (a one min spot on TV is better than none, but, not enough). The pressure has to come from big company CEOs pushing Congress, IV lobbying efforts, etc.

I got my GC on 09/18/07. Now my consulting company (how sponsored my GC) is having issues with the client and client is thinking to terminate the contract.
Client want to bring me to there pay roll. In other words they are offering my permanent position.
My consulting company does not have immediate opening for me.
It is not even a month that I got my GC. And I am with the same consulting company for about 6.5 years now.
Please help me. What should I do? If I accept the offer will I get problem at citizenship stage? If I do not accept offer I will loose job and I don't know how much time I have to wait till my consulting company find job for me.
Reminds me of the story about a mighty elephant who's been tied w/ a thin chain since t'was a baby. It just stopped trying to escape coz it's been conditioned that effort is futile though it can easily snap the chain. Run my friend...you're a CHEETAH now!!! :) Kudos!

Since the last action is you came on L1, you can apply for change of status to change from L1b to H1. Once it is approved, you can go back to H1b.

My contributions to IV includes Testimony before the MI Senate when MI state refused to issue DLs to temporary residents. I am a monthly contributor to IV, and have contributed to most of the recent IV funding drives. I am a Sep 18th rally veteran and recently visited Washington DC a few months back - in person - to lobby for some of the bills that are considered 'Hot News' today.
All this is nothing compared to what IV has given back to me as an organization. I was saved thousands of dollars due to July VB reversal. EAD helped me change jobs and leave MI in this tough economic downturn and auto companies inching toward bankruptcy. I just got my 2 year EAD today , and I thank IV for saving me hundreds of Dollars by getting EAD/AP period extended to 2 years. I don't know any other organization or person who has done so much for me. I am immensely grateful to be part of this movement.
It's my pleasure to start a volunteer group in the 'Volunteer State'. Hope we won't be short of volunteers :). It makes me nostalgic about the times MI chapter started as a group of few individuals and today boasts of 60+ members. Lets get organized here too. That's the only way to make our voices heard.
This is my promise to you - I won't ask you to do anything which I haven't done myself. And I won't force you to do anything, unless you feel that waiting for others to step up will not take you anywhere, and you feel ready to do something to help yourself and your family. yes you can. As per AC 21 once you have counted towards h1b number in last 6 year you are not counted again. So assuming your original h1 wasn't though non profit orgainzation, you can apply for new h1. If you have your I 140 approved you get 3 years h1. PM me if you need more info. I have done it.
and btw, h1b premium processing takes 15 days, so don't panic.
I asked my lawyer somewhat similar question regarding my wife. The question i asked was what if i stay on H1b and she uses her EAD and for some reason my 485 get rejected can she move back to H4 status?
The lawyer said as long as the I-94 is valid on her H4 she can else she will have to leave the country and apply at her home country . He did also mentioned something regarding time is counted as being out of status from the day a person uses EAD, don't remember whether the clock starts ticking passed the I-94 validity period or otherwise.

I recently renewed my license in Oklahoma and was surprised to find out that on top of shorter expiration date, now my license has �TEMPORARY� written across it. This is new rule that OK is applying for non-residents and non-citizens. Has any body else gone thru similar experience? I am outraged that now I will be discriminated every where. DL is used on day to day basis and every body will question me, suspect me as to why �TEMPORARY� is written on my DL. Even DL office was not sure when this new rule was implemented, how come police officers, general public will know about it. I feel ashamed to even show my DL now. I�ll get hard time getting loans etc b/c people will think I may move out any time as I am here �Temporarily�

Irrespective of what your notice says, it is very likely that your case has still actually not been transferred to NSC and is still in the CSC. I know because this is what has happened in my case. Just like yours, both mine and my spouse's applications were transferred to the CSC for data entry. Then we got notices saying our cases have been sent back to NSC. But apparently, only the 485 applications were supposedly sent back. The CSC issued EADs and APs for both of us.
IN the meanwhile, since the name typed on my receipt was incorrect, my attorney got the Senator's office involved. Now comes the punch line...according to the information provided by the USCIS to the Senator's office, irrespective of what the notices said, only my spouse's 485 application was actually sent to the NSC. My application is still in the CSC for some reason.
Also, according to sources that my Attorney has, it appears that right now the USCIS is in a "meltdown". They have no idea how many applications they received, where the applications are, and what stage of processing each application is. This was in response to feelers my Attorney sent regarding the FP notices (since we have not received ours yet, RD for 485 is July 23rd). Apparently, the USCIS is in a state where they are absolutely not willing to commit to any timeframes about any applications. This is supported by the vague information that they have put up on the website wherein, they are indicating that they received 2.5 million applications (for all services) in July and August as compared to 1.2 million last year and that they plan to hire an additional 1500 employees to share the workload...
So in a nutshell, I wouldn't worry about your not receiving the FP notice. I am willing to bet, that for some reason all the dependants 485 applications were sent to NSC while the prime applicants are still being held at the CSC and it appears we are in the same, leaking, sinking boat!!

My wife got finger printing notice but my notice says that "USCIS will notify me of biometrics when the appointment is available". Its so weird. I'm the prime applicant. Anybody any ideas? My lawyer said wait for 1 month. I spoke to USCIS customer service and they said wait for next month and open another SR.

see people dont understand why we say dont call, may be i got my reciepts because i didn't called them. and now they are making fun of me saying am saying all these bcoz i got my reciepts, but thats not true. I can understand the tension but this is not helping you either.

I have a h1B and a EAD. I was laid off one week back. Will there will be a problem if i take 6 months vacation, get a master degree, Try doing a business. Do i need to immediately find a job. I will be getting unemployment benifits and i think my H1B won't be valid since i lost my job and my next job would be on EAD.
Any suggestions, I am waiting for an answer from my attorney too.
