I just wanted to get some input from the veterans here who have started a business in partnership while they have been waiting for the coveted green card.
What kind of legal paperwork does it take to start a business? I would think as long as you don't work for the business it should be ok? If you can own part of a corporation (stocks), you can be a partner in a business?
Ideas?
If you are in H1B status, you can start your business by investing, but not working. You can not work for your business to get paid, but you can get profit sharing. In Wisconsin, when you register, you need a President/CEO who can legally work for your business. You can check with your state and register your business there. Probably, you even can register online in some state. Of cause, later on, you will need help from your accountant, laywer, etc.
If you have Green Card or EAD, that is not a problem to run by yourself.

Most of the time you will hanlde referential integrity checks via SQL constraints or a double layer via your business objects and constraints together. If you wrap your update statements in a try/catch you can always catch any SQLExceptions first.
Self incrementing IDs shouldn't be a problem - the data objects should be smart enough to know not to try to insert a key, and they will let SQL pick it. You shouldn't need to worry about these at all.
As long as SQL has the constraints you shouldn't have any problems introduced by the application - the worst case is that the application throws an unhandled exception after trying to do an illegal insert. Of course if this causes any problems within the application and the data display it should be handled, but the actual underlying data shouldn't be affected.

I am planning to shift employers and I have a question:
Company A applied for my green card and I have an approved I-140, passed the 6 month mark and now planning to shift jobs on EAD. I have an offer from Company B with a condition that my offer would be permanent upon approval of my green card. I cannot work for company B till I physically have my GC. In the mean time can I work for Company C ( in a completely different field) till my GC gets approved without any issues?

According to IRS you are citizen(Any one who stays more that 180 days and pays taxes in us is a citizen according to them). You can apply for student Loan as a citizen if you use this clause intelligently. This is how most students get credit cards. If you say you are on H1 to a credit card company they will never give you the card.
Again this is only my opinion. I might be wrong.:)
What you are talking about here is called 'Resident Alien' - the IRS definition of someone who pays taxes just like a citizen on a regular form 1040 (by the way, students are non-resident aliens and pay taxes on 1040NR). To open any financial account you must disclose if you are citizen/resident alien or non-resident alien, and yes some companies do not open accounts to non-resident aliens, but it is acutally up to companies where they draw the line - most credit card companies are glad to open accounts to foreign students (hey, it's a free country, you can't tell a company whom to lend the money and whom not, provided it's not taxpayer money).
The kicker about the student loans is that there is special Federal financing available only for loans taken out by citizens and LPRs (Sally Mae and recent student loan scandal ring any bells? yes, these are loans). So, oups, no luck here without a green cards.

I sent my application to vermont based on the USCIS answering system on June 30th that folks with approved I-140s should send 485 applications to the center where it was approved. Any ideas, if there is a problem with that and if the app gets transferred how much time it will take.
